Mental Toughness Questionnaire
Mental Toughness is “A personality trait which determines, in some part, how individuals respond mentally when exposed to stressors, pressure, opportunity and challenge.. irrespective of the prevailing situation.” (Clough, Strycharczyk and Perry, 2021)
Mental Toughness assesses “how we think”. In other words, why we act and respond emotionally to events. It enables us to understand mindset in a very practical way.
Mental toughness describes our invisible mental responses to events. It is a major influence on our behaviour. It is Incredibly well evidenced With over 200 research papers across the world supporting the construct of mental toughness and its significance. Most importantly through the MTQ plus, we can reliably assess for it, creating self-awareness.
Measuring team mental toughness offers several key benefits for businesses:
- Enhanced Performance: Mentally tough individuals and teams are better equipped to handle challenges, setbacks, and pressure. They are more likely to persevere, maintain focus, and achieve their goals.
- Improved Resilience: Mentally tough teams are more resilient to change and adversity. They can adapt to new situations, overcome obstacles, and bounce back from setbacks.
- Increased Productivity: A mentally tough team is more likely to be productive and efficient. They can maintain focus, manage stress effectively, and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Better Decision-Making: Mentally tough individuals and teams are better able to analyse information, evaluate options, and make informed decisions. They are less likely to be swayed by emotions or short-term gains.
- Improved Employee Engagement: Mentally tough individuals are more likely to be engaged and satisfied with their work. They are more resilient, optimistic, and committed to their team’s goals.
- Stronger Company Culture: A culture of mental toughness can foster a positive and supportive work environment. It can help to build trust, collaboration, and a sense of shared purpose.
By measuring team mental toughness, businesses can identify areas for improvement, implement targeted interventions, and create a more resilient, high-performing workforce.
The Process
We start by asking people to complete a Mental Toughness Questionnaire (MTQ) and this will generate an MT Development Report.
We then run an introductory workshop to provide individuals with a deeper understanding of the mental toughness 4Cs model so that they can read and interpret their Development Report.
There are further options for 1-1 coaching and/or group development activities to help participants better understand their mental toughness.
TWOI – Team Working Orientation Inventory
The Teamwork Orientation Inventory (TWO) is designed to enable team members to quickly and reliably identify important strengths and weaknesses in the way their team operates – their teamwork orientation. This allows team members to focus on interventions which either consolidate strengths and/or attend to weaknesses in five key areas:
Common Goals and Objectives, Effective Communication, Continuous Improvement, Working Together, and Engaging with Success.
